Writing Skills

Writing Skills is an educational piece of software constructed in Flash CS3 designed to help students of English improve on the nuances of their language skills and refine their advanced comprehension and general writing Skills. The program comprises 5 sections including, on final completion, many hundreds of expository pages and exercises.

Writing Skills currently exists as a demo version incorporating only a handful of the intended final content.

Writing Skills was challenging in that developing for a multimedia situation is different to a traditional website. Given loading from a hard disk/cd as opposed to a web connection, graphical assets could be more elaborate and rich and compression is less of a concern. Not to say that size-consciousness completely fell by the wayside as the target size for the final product is around 20-30mb size. The demo weighs in at a modest 12mb.

On the technical side, the program incorporates extensive use of Actionscript 3 to make exercises come to life and objects to bounce and react to the user. External frameworks were used to extend the base functionality of AS3 including TweenLite.
